NVQ - How Long Does it Take?

Question - How long does it take to complete an EOR202N or NVQ?

Answer - It depends on a number of variables, the engineer, the time available and the employer support.

The EOR202N is a single NVQ unit and certificate of verified achievement with a minimum time expectation of 3 months before you get your certificate - with it taking 55 working days to register and claim alone through the Lift & Escalator Industry Association (LEIA).

To complete a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) the lift engineer, or learner, will have to prove it via collecting and submitting work related evidence. This will normally be job write ups or method statements along with Health & Safety notes, drawings and/or photos, and any documents used, (i.e. lift repair work sheets or installation records).

Evidence is broken down into performance and knowledge and your lift training assessor will be able to guide you all the way into completing your work to the end. Cross-referencing is a main part of linking which jobs are relevant to the NVQ standards. Remember that the criteria of these standards are based on the National Occupational Standards in which regulators such as OfQual are responsible for overseeing the external verification of awarding bodies who licence its recognised centres.

Training Centre Direct (TCD) and LEIA are both approved centres with EAL, where LEIA are responsible for the registration and claim only where LEIA can also request to see the NVQ evidence of lift engineers work and their internal quality assurance records at any time. Three examples of evidence are required to cross reference to the performance criteria and a set of underpinning knowledge answers are required, (or multiple choice answer sheet) for each unit as well.

So to answer the question will be different for each person. Generally if you haven't completed the NVQ course work in two years, then the lift engineer and/or the company can decide if it is worth pursuing, (the EOR202N generally takes 3-4 months). Remember you can always start/stop any qualification whenever you need to and there are no exams to sit. Training Centre Direct are lift industry experts in this area and have a name synonyms with expert support and quality information advice and guidance, (something that has also earned us the Matrix Standard accreditation).
